Itacatamarans Family

Itacatamarans was created in 2016 by Emanuele Caprini an entrepreneur, who had been looking for a catamaran for himself with specific characteristics in mind given that he was an avid windsurfer and monohuller.

After having visited various multihull manufacturers and not having found what he was looking for, Emanuele decided to create a boatyard to build a high quality sailing catamaran for himself and other discerning sailors. His objective was to introduce a level of quality and finish coupled with sailing performance which was missing in the market. He also wanted for the potential owners to be at the center of their dream project and not just a number, given them attention and listening to their needs.

A Visionary Start

Emanuele convinced his wife and family who also got involved in the start-up. With the intention of creating for himself and increasingly demanding sailors a product that was not present in the nautical market, he surrounded himself with sea afficionados, sailing champions and a team of professionals who had been working in the Nautical Industry for decades.

His idea was to have a seaworthy catamaran designed for ocean crossing or local waters, sailing in great comfort and safely. A sporty cat while at the same time able to satisfy demanding owners wanting a distinguished design and high finish level.

Designing for Excellence

The design was commissioned to the team of Yacht Design Collective, with the interiors by Emanuele Caprini, Emanuele Soli and YDC. The French engineering firm Rivoyre Ingéniérie® was also commissioned to collaborate on the project to ensure the utmost structural robustness. And of course the decades of experience of the majors boatbuilding partners involved in the project.

Handcrafted in Italy’s Sailing Valley

The next step was the production site.

Italy can boast a worldclass Nautical Industry and the choice of the area fell on the Sailing Valley of the Central Adriatic coast, near Fano. Fano was well known to the Romans, Julius Cesar dedicated the city in 207 a.C. to the cult of the goddess Fortuna. Nowadays, it is one of the most important worldwide recognized Sailing Valleys and it is here, thanks to a highly qualified team, that ITA catamarans are born.

An ITA is not an industrial process, it is a unique construction requiring thousands of hours of passion, dedication, experience and labour. Each ITA catamaran is built to the highest standards, as if it were Emanuele’s own, and with him personally checking on the quality.

Welcome to the ITA Family

Becoming an ITA owner is getting adopted by the Caprini Family and the whole ITA Team who will be at your side whatever your sailing program may be, making your ITA experience a unique one, before, during and after purchase, so that your dream can come through.

The ITA Hull Shape & Design Philosophy, YDC Collective

“The brief we were given was to design a different kind of sailing catamaran for Emanuele, the yard founder and owner, and for future owners.
The general idea was to make a boat that glided. A boat that glides on water is a boat that has a smooth movement, that accelerates in gusts and waves rather than heeling and absorbing stress, which all leads to a more pleasant and safer sailing experience.
Speed was not the main criterion in itself, even if it is a guarantee of safety and a consequence of the seaworthiness of the boat, all required by Itacatamarans for its catamarans on an offshore program.

These were the basis of the ITA project, integrating throughout the design process the utmost comfort aspects of the boat, as owners would be living on board for long periods of time.

The movement of the boat was obviously very important in order to be able to install the comfort equipment which is expected nowadays in high standard boats. Itacatamarans dedicated a great deal of attention and care to the selection of materials and construction techniques. The innovative hull lines with its reversed bows were developed to be able to take advantage of the lightest winds. In addition the bow shape generates hydrodynamic thrust to relieve the bows when the boat is loaded, and limit the effects of pitching and the phenomena of suction. This design with the daggerboards to ensure going upwind, almost like on a monohull.”

“This balance between all the parameters on an ITA comes from a holistic design approach: all parameters being so intricated on a boat, everything has to be studied in coordination with the rest and compromises have to be weighted carefully. Simplicity and strong design concept such as a non structural roof and attention to all details are adamant. For example weight is important, but not only in itself, also where it is located in the boat.

This holistic approach is the most important to achieve our design goals, and this is the premise for all ITA constructions. The yard’s great deal of attention and care to the selection of materials and construction techniques, combined with high level craftmanship in boat building, result in a catamaran of a superior level on all fronts. Truly different!

It’s not about breaking records, it’s about sailing fast, at the speed of the wind as much as possible, safely and in a comfortable space designed to maximize the unique experience of life on the water.”
